COMPOSITION PER ML:
Synthetic oxytocin 10 IU.
This product has been prepared with oxytocin, a hormone secreted by the posterior lobe of
the hypophysis which controls the uterine contractions during parturition by specific
simulation of the smooth muscles of the uterus.
Moreover, it regulates the contractility of glandular acini and galactophorous ducts of the
udder, enhancing the secretion and excretion of milk during the post-partum period. This
draining property is useful for the trealment of bovine and swine mastitis, as an aid to the
suitable antimicrobial therapy.
INDICATIONS:
Sows: Parturition induction, Uterine atony, Uterine involution, Agalactia (post-partum
milk letdown) and Vaginal discharge in chronic pyornetritis.
Ewes: Parturition induction, Uterine atony, Uterine involution, Placenta retention and Agalactia (post-partum milk letdown).
Cows: Parturition induction, Uterine atony, Uterine involution (following caesarean
section and lo reduce haemorrhage), Placenta retention, Agalactia (post-partum milk
letdown), Vaginal discharge in chronic pyometritis and lo facilitate Milk letdown in the
presence of mastitis.
INTERACTIONS:
- Corticoids, vasoconstrictive sympathomimetic agents and anaesthetics.
- Calcium and oestrogens strengthens the effects of this product.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
- Dystocia by abnormal presentation, inadequate pelvic-foetal proportion or any other kind
of mechanical obstruction.
- Cardiovascular diseases.
- Animals susceptible lo uterine rupture.
- Take care when administering to animals suffering from toxaemia.
- When inducing parturition, do not administer to animals in which the uterine cervix has
not dilated.
ADMINISTRATION ROUTE:
Intravenous, instramuscular or subcutaneous.
Intravenous administration should be very slow and, preferably with glucose or saline
serum.
DOSAGE:
FOR OBSTETRICAL USE:
By intravenous, intramuscular or subcutaneous route:
Sows and Ewes: 3 to 5 ml/animal (30 to 50 IU/animal).
Cows: 7.5 to 10 ml/cow (75 to 100 IU/cow).
TO FACILITATE MILK LETDOWN AND AGALACTIA:
By intravenous route, preferably:
Sows and Ewes: 0.5 to 2 ml/animal (5 to 20 IU/animal).
Cows: 1 lo 2 ml/cow (10 to 20 IU/cow).
OVERDOSE:
- Hyperstimulation of the myometrium, myometrial spasms, premature separation of the
placenta, and even death of the mother and foetus.
- Post-partum haemorrhage might appear, which should be treated symptomatically.
- Death of the foetus may occur.
WITHDRAWAL PERIOD:
Meat: 2 days.
Milk: 2 days.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS:
- Store at +2 to +8 ºC, protected from light.
- Keep out of reach of children.
PRESENTATION:
Box with 2 vials of 10 ml. Reg. nº 0448 ESP
Pack with 20 vials of 10 ml. Under veterinary prescription
Pack with 12 bottles of 100 ml.
